CRA Parental Benefit Eligibility 2024

The individuals falling in the category of the following conditions are considered to be eligible for the parental benefits

  • Pregnant individuals 
  • Blessed with a newborn while claiming the benefit
  • Parents looking after an adopted child
  • Individuals weekly earnings were reduced by a factor of 40% because of the circumstances
  • Individuals have an employment history of about 600 hours prior to claiming the benefit amount
  • Individuals claiming the benefit should be a citizen of Canada

CRA Parental Benefits Payment Schedule 2024

  • Maternity benefit can be claimed 3 months (12 weeks) before the child is born. Eligible individuals can claim up to 15 weeks of benefit.
  • Individuals receiving parental benefit are advised to claim the benefit as soon as possible.
  • Parental benefit can be claimed by the child’s parent and can be shared by both parents. However, maternity benefit can only be claimed by the child’s mother or the person giving birth and cannot be shared between the parents.
  • Once individuals’ claims have been decided, they are given weekly payments according to the type of benefit the person is receiving.

How To Claim CRA Parental Benefits 2024?

Individuals are advised to claim benefits within a period of 12 months for standard parental benefits and within a period of 18 months for extended parental benefits. However, if an individual resigns from work, they are advised to claim benefits within a period of one month of resignation.
