Nagar Palika Parishad Pithampur City Development Plan 2024

A City Development Plan (CDP) is both a vision and a scenario for the future development of a city. It presents the current state of development of the city, i.e. where we are now. It sets the parameters for change, i.e. where we want the city to go. It identifies the mechanisms, what are the needs that we need to address on a priority basis. It also suggests alternative pathways, policies, interventions, etc. to bring about change, what interventions do we need to make to achieve this vision, within which we project the identified needs and their implementation. It also establishes a logical and coherent framework for evaluating investment decisions.

These city development plans are based on the goals of the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNnURM) to create economically productive, efficient, just and resilient cities. As a means to achieve this goal, these CDPs focus on developing economic and social infrastructure and policies that specifically address issues affecting the urban poor, strengthening municipal governments and their financial accounting and budgetary systems and processes, creating rules for accountability and transparency, and eliminating legal and other constraints that suppress land and housing markets. It also provides a framework for cities to adopt urban sector reforms that help direct investment into city-based infrastructure.

Note: It is essential for any city to think through its future development and determine what its future shape should be.
